Longmont Citizens for
Justice and Democracy

Our Concerns

Our democracy
is threatened by the fusion of corporate and governmental powers.

Our elections
are dominated by money, power, and special interests. They fail to represent the people's will.

Our mainly corporate media
no longer informs the public on issues vital to a well-functioning democracy.

Our economy
allows for wide-spread inequities and abuses, resulting in an ever-growing wealth gap.

Our society
is plagued by social injustices
linked to gender, race, ethnicity,
and sexual orientation.

Our politicians
accept the unabashed greed of some, while promoting prisons and police brutality for others.

Our lives
are flooded with the mind-numbing influence of spin and advertising,
all in the interest of mass-consumerism, while our common language is losing such concepts
as justice, tolerance, and compassion.

Our government
uses our taxes to commit crimes against other peoples in the pursuit of global empire.

Our safety, health, and well-being are threatened by the unconscionable damage to the environment.

MISSION STATEMENT

We are committed to nurturing a civil society that includes all members of a community.

We oppose any attempts to homogenize social and cultural diversity.

We value communication, education, and critical thinking as civic responsibilities.

We feel that it is absolutely necessary to take action to protect our freedoms and
our rights.

We believe that democracy is something people do, not something people have.

JOIN US!

We wish to share our alternative vision
and challenge all people to participate
in creating and maintaining true justice and democracy, here and now, in our community.

Our Guidelines

Demonstrating
in public places

We demonstrate to share common cause with each other and to invite the public to engage with us. We should be focused honest, direct, compassionate and have fun.

PEACEFUL
We will act in a peaceful manner. Conversations with those who want to talk about issues should not take place amidst the demonstrators. People should not feel we are ganging up on them.

RESPECTFUL
We will respect other people's right to have a different opinion, even if they express their opinion in a belligerent manner. We will never allow ourselves to be pulled into a shouting match with them.

SAFE
We will keep the sidewalks and cross walks unobstructed.
We will avoid causing any kind of traffic hazard.
We will show the police respect and courtesy and obey their lawful and reasonable requests.
Carrying weapons of any kind is not acceptable.
